First a definition of courage from Merriam Webster: “mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty.” And where is courage rarely found? Based on what I can ascertain from years of reading accounts of conservative speakers, and now Jewish speakers, being shouted down and disrupted on university campuses around the USA, courage is in short supply in university administrations. But perhaps the problem, in addition to a lack of courage, is that the university leaders agree with the viewpoints of the students who protest and shout down conservatives and Israelis. Universities will give lip service to promoting diversity of ideas, but won’t really stand up (i.e. demonstrate courage) for diversity of ideas when the ideas are conservative. If college students are going to develop courage (which is just an old-fashioned patriarchal merit-based colonial concept), it sure as Hell isn’t going to be on today’s college campuses (in particular the Ivy League).
